Different levels of Reiki training exist, with practitioners typically progressing through levels that deepen their understanding and ability to channel energy. Some practitioners may also incorporate symbols learned in advanced levels to focus the energy for specific intentions. Reiki sessions are generally conducted in a calm and quiet environment, with the recipient lying down fully clothed. The practitioner uses a series of hand positions held for a few minutes each, covering various areas of the body. Recipients often report feeling warmth, tingling, deep relaxation, and a sense of peace during and after a session.
While the scientific understanding of how Reiki works is still evolving, some studies suggest it may induce physiological changes associated with relaxation, such as a lowered heart rate and blood pressure. Many proponents and recipients attribute its benefits to the body’s natural relaxation response and the potential influence on the subtle energy fields within and around the body.
